On June 2nd, 2010, the Ontario provincial government cabinet met secretly to pass a regulation which allows the police to arrest anyone who refuses to identify themselves or agree to a police search within five metres of the G20 security zone in Toronto.
This measure, called the Ontario’s Public Works Protection Act, was not debated in the legislature or was made public knowledge until now, several weeks after it passed.
The PWPA is already being compared to the War Measures Act and seriously curtails our rights and freedoms.
This measure threatens our civil liberties and denies many the right to organize, assemble and express themselves peacefully. We fully oppose this act, and the secrecy with which it was enacted.
